Agtech Sweden and the Knowledge Hub for the Digitalisation of Agriculture at Linköping University are taking another step onto the international stage to influence how future agriculture and food systems are digitalised. Represented by Per Frankelius, the initiatives were elected on 18 September 2026 to two new expert groups within the global standardisation organisation ISO.
“Being involved in these contexts offers a unique opportunity to drive digitalisation forward and ensure that insights from Swedish farmers, advisers and technology innovators are considered when the ground rules for global agricultural technology are being shaped,” says Per Frankelius, Executive Director of Agtech Sweden and the Knowledge Hub for the Digitalisation of Agriculture.

Ground rules for agricultural technology
These new assignments mean that Per Frankelius will join an advisory group for responsible innovation and a specific working group focused on language, terminology and data interoperability within the agrifood sector. In practice, this involves helping to ensure that future technological solutions are developed in an ethical and sustainable manner, while laying the foundations for seamless communication between the various digital systems, machine interfaces and software used in agriculture.
Swedish participation in international work
The initiative gained momentum in autumn 2024 when Per Frankelius and Karolina Muhrman from Linköping University, along with Ulrik Lovang from the partner company Lovang Lantbrukskonsult, began participating in the standardisation work for agricultural data. The work is funded by the Swedish Board of Agriculture and Agtech Sweden. The team collaborates closely with researchers Johanna Sylvander and Andrea Fried from the Division of Business Administration at the Department of Management and Engineering, Linköping University, with the Swedish Institute for Standards (SIS), and with Tomas Klingström from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), who is also part of the Knowledge Hub for the Digitalisation of Agriculture.
The international work is carried out within ISO’s Technical Committee on data-driven agriculture and food systems, for which SIS is the Swedish national committee. Per Frankelius also represents Sweden on the committee’s expert group for artificial intelligence and data labelling.
