How can grazing techniques contribute to increased productivity? This was the focus when the Swedish Board of Agriculture organised a knowledge-sharing day for advisers specialising in meadows and pastures on 16 September 2026 at Hulterstad Ekoproduktion AB in Mjölby. The event was organised in collaboration with the Skills Development Programme for Meadows and Pastures, Organic Production and Greppa Näringen.
Following an introduction, during which farmer Mats Carlsson spoke about the history of Hulterstad Farm, the morning session continued at two different pastures. The participants were divided into two groups: one explored pasture analysis with Margareta Dahlberg (MD Agricultural Adviser), while the other attended a presentation by Magnus Samuelsson.

Examples and trends in grazing technology
Magnus Samuelsson took part as a representative of the Knowledge Hub for the Digitalisation of Agriculture and Agtech Sweden. He presented recent examples and trends in technologies that can be applied to grazing livestock. He summarised the developments as follows:
“The trend is towards greater precision in the use of grass as a resource, known as Precision Livestock Farming (PLF). This involves, amongst other things, satellite-based pasture monitoring, combined with on-site calibrations and NIR analyses of nutrient content. This entails more administrative work than at present but also yields greater returns in terms of milk production or growth.”
Strong interest in new technology
The presentation generated a great deal of interest and led to many questions and discussions about how the technology can be adapted to Swedish conditions.
The training day continued with a session on coastal pastureland, a practical exercise and a concluding summary back at the farm.
