It was on Tuesday July 2nd that the team from Kverneland Group Sweden started a world shortening trial at Bro Godås farm in Säffle, Sweden. How many bales can you produce during 24 hours of continuous operation? With the goal in sight, preparation was required in the form of cutting 100 hectares of heavy grass.

FastBale

At 17:00 Oscar Svantesson Mander started the challenge with a 240 hp tractor and the latest Kverneland Non-Stop baler and wrapper combination, Kvarneland FastBale Premium.

And the world record was achieved with 1,587 wrapped bales. This was under fully practical conditions, including travel time between fields, machine maintenance and net/film changes, all included in the total baling time.

The advantage of the Kverneland FastBale is that the machine both bales and wraps without stopping, thanks to a patented concept where the bale is formed in two chambers.

Calculating the number of bales produced per 10-minute period, the following conclusion could be drawn: the exact 24 hours that elapsed between July 2 at 17:00 and July 3 at 17:00 showed that 1587 bales were produced. This means 66.125 bales per hour and less than one minute per bale, or 54 seconds per bale.

The independent analysis of the experiment was performed by:
Per Frankelius, Associate Professor from Linköping University and Innovation Manager at Agtech Sweden.
